Salad Dressing
Reasons why you should make your own salad dressing:
1. It's fresh!
2. You avoid unnecessary additives, gums, thickeners, colours, flavours, and preservatives.
3. It's a simple, cost-effective (and delicious) way to upgrade your nutrition daily.
Most store-bought dressings are filled with unstable oils, processed sugars, and unnecessary additives.
I always keep a bottle of extra virgin olive oil, red wine vinegar, sea salt, black pepper, and local honey in my pantry - and there are always lemons in the house.
Extra virgin olive oil is loaded with powerful antioxidants that can work fight against inflammation and protect your body against free radicals (that are responsible for things like aging, diseases, and cell damage). Red wine vinegar contains acetic acid (all vinegar contains acetic acid) and polyphenols. Lemon is a great source of whole food vitamin C. Local honey is rich in antioxidants and protective phytonutrients. Sea salt and pepper to taste.
This is my go-to dressing, it's RICH in antioxidants, and it hits all the flavour profiles - it's sweet, sour, bitter, salty with a little spice.
I usually mix equal parts of each, shake it and pour over my greens. Whether it's big or small, I make sure to have a salad daily. This one habit can simply result in better health over time.
